Motorhome Mailbox Frequently Asked Questions
Who do I deal with, once I sign up?
All customer service will be provided by the dedicated staff of the mail service company. They will operate your mailbox for you and you will be in contact with them directly by email, phone, fax, post or in person.
Can I set up my insurance with this address?
My experience is that you can use a motorhome mailbox as a correspondence address for insurance purposes. However, you will also need to supply the insurance company with the UK post code where the vehicle is kept. Ask your insurance company about using a correspondence address.
Can I use this for my bank?
My experience is that this is fine for banking purposes.
Can I receive packages in my mailbox?
Yes. Motorhome Mailbox staff will sign for your packages, with your prior authorization. You will be asked to authorize this service as part of the sign-up procedure. There is no surcharge for this service.
What if my post exceeds the mailbox size?
Post will be kept elsewhere until it is forwarded to you. If this happens regularly you may be asked to rent a larger box. I get plenty of mail and forward it only once every few months, yet this has never happened to me.
Is there a charge for receiving faxes and emails in my mail?
No. There is no charge.
Can I visit the mail company in person to collect my mail?
Absolutely. It is free to collect your mail in person and you can do so 24 hours a day.
Can I manage my box by email?
Certainly. That is how I have been doing things for the last few years. The mailbox company is very responsive to emails and so calling is rarely needed.
How well do you know this mail service company?
I have personally been a happy customer for three years.
Come on. What is this Motorhome Mailbox thing? You didn't start a mailbox company from your motorhome did you James?
I tried to but Santen (my dog) refused to lick the stamps.
Seriously, Motorhome Mailbox is a product, very similar to an existing mailbox product, that has been tailored for motorhome users. I developed it and am marketing it for an established mailbox company. The important features of Motorhome Mailbox are that:
- I negotiated discounts for my customers, based on bulk sales and my paying for the marketing
- The mailbox company staff have been given customer profiles of motorhome users, so they know what we are likely to need
- I supply explanations of the service in my guides and on this site, so that you, the customer can learn how it works
- I sell it through my guides and website
The mail services company pays me a fee for each customer I sign up.
What are the benefits of a Motorhome Mailbox over the alternatives?
1) Asking friends to handle your post:
With a Motorhome Mailbox, you are paying for the service, so you can be as demanding as you need to be. The mail company are paid to help you. If you use your friends or family then there is a limit to what you can ask of them. Also, if something goes wrong, the mailbox company are going to be accountable. They will take responsibility for any errors they make. Whether it is their mistake or not, they will work with you to fix your problems (I have direct experience of this. They are very good in this respect).
2) PO Box from the Post Office
I understand there is a time limit to PO Boxes. The PO Box has much more limited features compared to a Motorhome Mailbox. For example, I don't think it is possible to get your mail forwarded to you at different locations each time while you tour (as motorhome users often need).
3) Mailbox from another mailbox company
Other mailbox companies are unlikely to offer the discounts you get through a Motorhome Mailbox. There may be difficulties getting the staff to understand your needs. Motorhome users need slightly different service compared to standard mailbox users. The vast majority of customers of mail service companies call-in to collect their mail, while motorcarravanners use forwarding to receive their mail almost exclusively.
