There is a service called OnSpeed that can speed up just about any Internet connection. This is obviously very handy if you are connecting to the Internet via a GSM mobile phone and a laptop in your van.

How does it work?

OnSpeed increases the speed of your connection by compressing webpages and emails. Incomming webpages and emails are compressed on an OnSpeed server before being delivered to your computer. This is all managed behind the scenes by a piece of software that you download and install on your computer. Emails that you want to send are compressed on your computer using the OnSpeed software you installed, before being sent to OnSpeed servers, where they are decompressed and sent as normal. This means that your recipient does not have to have OnSpeed installed to recieve messages from you. The idea is that it all takes place without you knowing it, so all you experience is a faster connection.

OnSpeed currently only works for webpages and emails. It does not compress FTP traffic.
